The Genomics and Bioinformatics Hub has evolved from the Bioinformatics Club, launched by Dr. Dong in 2017 to provide a regular meetup where interested researchers can learn bioinformatics and share with each other. We are a winner of the BRI NextGen Award in 2018, funded by Brigham Research Institute to support the affinity group in the community.

Till now, we have invited 45 speakers and provided 75 talks to more than 3,000 people in the audience. Our club has more than 300 members. See our list of past talks and speakers.

We also run workshops and data camp focusing on a specific topic, e.g. mini R camp, mini Stat camp, and recent AI Camp (click images below for news report).

We plan to continue these meetings and will focus on three categories: Statistics & Artificial Intelligence, Tools & Resources, and Data Visualization & Presentation. Each time a short talk (30-45min) for a specific topic will be given by a speaker, with a step-by-step tutorial and practical demo.

The talks, incl. all slides and learning materials are free and open to everyone. However, to keep the club running, we strongly recommend that every member could present at least once in the club per year. The philosophy is when you set up a learning goal, you are more likely to reach the goal. On the other hand, presenting to others is such an essential skill in science (and in every aspect of life, actually). “An alleged scientific discovery has no merit unless it can be explained to a barmaid.” So, please sign up today, NOW!

As a speaker, you can present your latest scientific work as a Featured Talk, or you can give a technical talk by choosing any favorite bioinformatics topic you like. If you have no idea where to start, here is a list of prime articles in Bioinformatics we’d like to go thru during the seminar series.

The club is founded and run by Dr. Xianjun Dong, an Assistant Professor of Neurology in HMS, together with a team of management and an advisory broad. It’s currently funded by BRI NextGen Award and supported by the Precision Neurology Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We are constantly looking to serve more people in the area. So please write to us for any interests, comments, or suggestions.
