Initialized on July 10th, 2017, the Bioinformatics Club aims to provide a weekly meetup for those who like bioinformatics to learn and share knowledge and skills in the interdisciplinary field.

We focus on three categories of topics: Statistics & Artificial Intelligence, Tools & Resources, and Data Visualization & PresentationEach time a short talk (30-45min) for a specific topic will be given by a speaker, with a step-by-step tutorial and practical demo.

The talks, incl. all slides and learning materials are free and open to everyone. However, to keep the club running, we strongly recommend that every member could present at least once in the club per year. The philosophy is when you set up a learning goal, you are more likely to reach the goal. On the other hand, presenting to others is such an essential skill in science (and in every aspect of life, actually). “An alleged scientific discovery has no merit unless it can be explained to a barmaid.” So, please sign up today, NOW!

As a speaker, you can present your latest scientific work as a Featured Talk, or you can give a technical talk by choosing any favorite bioinformatics topic you like. If you have no idea where to start, here is a list of prime articles in Bioinformatics we’d like to go thru during the seminar series.

News! We are going to run the 2019 AI Camp in Brigham from Oct. 3rd to Nov. 25th, focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence. The course will include three sections: Foundation part will cover math behind the neural network models, tools and resources for deep learning, and a two-hour python hand-on course; Application part will include practical examples and various application in genomics, pathology, radiology, clinical, real-world data. In the end, we will have an Open Discussion about the challenge and unsolved questions in AI. Please find the agenda here!

The club is founded and run by Dr. Xianjun Dong, an Instructor of Neurology in HMS, together with a team of management and an advisory broad. It’s currently funded by BRI NextGen Award and supported by the Precision Neurology Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We are constantly looking to serve more people in the area. So please write to us for any interests/comments/suggestions.
