Andrew Stern, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Fellow in Behavioral Neurology, seeing patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. He spends the majority of his time performing basic science research on Alzheimer’s disease under the mentorship of Dennis Selkoe, MD. Dr. Stern combines the use of human stem cell models with human tissue-derived disease-associated proteins to study neurodegeneration in vitro. He and the Genomics and Bioinformatics Hub are collaborating to understand the whole-genome transcriptional changes that occur in human stem cell-derived neurons when exposed to human brain-derived amyloid-beta oligomers, a central contributor to Alzheimer disease pathogenesis.
